Have not used a pre shave oil for years. I warm it in the water along with my brush. I use about a nickel size. rub it on my face after a shower and before I whip up my lather. I don't think it helps slickness much, but protects the face and improves post shave skin conditioning. It is a little messier than other types of pre shaves, but easily washes of my hands wirh hand soap before I start making my lather

I have tried several Pre Shave Oils and The Sterling Naked and Smooth is by far the best.
It really softens the beard. No more nicks.

Pre-shave has become an important part of my shaving routine. It adds an extra layer of protection on my old face. Pre-shaves can be very highly priced, but not this excellent, non-greasy one!

A screaming bargain that performs. A little goes a long way and I find it helps style your hair too - if you use just what's left on your hands after you work it into your beard. Scentless means I can use one of my Stirling beard balms if I choose.

I’ve only used it a couple of times so not much experience with it. It’s hard to shake out of the bottle though. I did notice a smoother shave after applying it and then the shave soap. Can’t rate more than 3 stars as I need to use it more.

When I need to shave but haven’t taken a shower before I do, this really helps a lot. The hairs are super soft and the shave is incredibly slick. A must have for those who like a really nice shave and have sensitive skin.

I shave with a Hensen safety razor using Astra blades. Using this pre-shave oil has been a game changer. No more nicks when the blade is starting to get dull! And very economical!

This is my go-to beard oil. A lot of the reviews are for this as a pre-shave oil, but I've found it's the best beard oil (full stop) that I've ever used. It helps cut down on flakes and keeps my beard soft.

High quality, great value! Many pre shave oils come in smaller sizes at a higher cost. I like the unscented to pair with soaps and splashes that don’t offer a matching oil. All Sterling products I have purchased are of the utmost quality.

I tried this today and like the fact that it is unscented. It makes it a lot easier to pair with any of Stirling's shave soaps.

Thanks to people like Dan C. Bearded, Beardtube and Beardbrand, I have been trying out various products meant to take care of my beard on a daily basis. However, one of the biggest problems is that many places will have their own fragrances, and I prefer to have a single, dominant scent rather than mixing various kinds, especially on my beard. Thankfully, Stirling Soap not only delivers a quality beard oil but also excels on the quantity itself as each of their bottles comes in 3 oz, and you can order a sample pack of three 1 oz bottles to find a scent that works for you. The beard oil itself is very light and it will keep your beard hydrated for several hours once you find the right amount for your beard. As far as shaving, I can't say how good or bad it is since I prefer using Cremo as a pre-shave cream.

My only qualm with the bottle is that the restrictor top is somewhat finicky when it is mostly full. When you first start using this oil, it takes a little more shaking to get out, sometimes the small droplets come out of the corners of the lid, but after ten uses I think I got a better hang of it and it became easier to apply. I know that Stirling used to have their beard oils with no tops, which is why I bought a small dropper ahead of its arrival, so I felt the need to mention this information. Maybe there is a easy DIY method to remove the restrictor top if you prefer using a dropper, but I think it's better to have it rather than risk spilling it all out.

Used as a pre shave oil. I didn't get half the irritation and no breakouts either. This is a good base layer to prep your face before you lather up. I believe this made a major difference in my shave and saved my face from burns, cuts, irritation and razor bumps. A little goes a long way as well and the value for what you get is outstanding! Stirling is the best as far as value is concerned!

Even after building a great lather my neck still had irritation when going ATG.

but when applying this pre-shave oil, I can feel the difference. The hairs are getting cut smoothly. i'm getting an extremely close shave and NO irritation !

I love this stuff. It makes the razor glide smoother on the first pass and I get less irratiation. I shave daily and even using "smoother blades" I would still get razor burn in delicate areas of my face especially my chin area. This has helped a lot and since it's unscented it pairs with every shave soap I have. If you have sensitive skin I would highly recommend this stuff. I don't shave without it. I can shave more now with my feather blades which I prefer due to my course hair.

I recently ordered a bottle of this oil and I love it. I asked for a shot of menthol because while I don't keep a beard, I use the other scents I've purchased as a rocking pre shave oil. This stuff both softens and conditions as advertised and provides a great base to keep irritation down(something I'm very prone to)

This stuff does exactly what it’s supposed to do. I can definitely feel the difference between when I do and don’t use it. Highly recommend this for a smooth, pain free shave.

Works great as a pre shave and beard oil. I use the unscented and add my own scents. I also add in a dab of lanolin which softens the skin even more; but, requires mixing/shaking.

Use very little (4-6 drops spread thin) and there will be all the protection you want without any noticeable oil mess. I also use a roller applicator which saves my hands from touching the oil, except the 2 fingers I use to rub it in and even it out.

An outstanding bargain and a must have for my sensitive skin.

I would probably go with a scented next time, but this works great. Right now I exclusively use stirling products. I am now able to shave daily, 3-4 pass, absolutely no irritation.
It is more messy in the sink than pre shave soap, but it performs better for me.
