Scent Description: You still hold open doors. Sir, Ma'am, please, and thank you are permanent fixtures in your lexicon. Your attire is never disheveled in public. You command respect from first glance, then earn and keep that respect as time passes. Rudeness and coercion are not in your personality. It doesn't need to be. Others feel compelled to be around you and work with you. You're not a jerk or a relic of times past. You're a Gentleman. A Stirling Gentleman....and this is what you smell like. A warm and masculine blend of Tobacco, Vanilla, Amber, and Musk.

Customers praised the exceptional lather quality and slickness. The tobacco-vanilla-musk scent polarized shoppers: many called it "masculine" and "sophisticated," receiving compliments, while others found it "overwhelming" or "floral." Most noted long-lasting fragrance. Performance consistently rated excellent with great cushion and post-shave feel.

Great smell, lathers well and helps with a great shave
To me this one almost has a woody edge to it, one of the scents my wife also preferred.
Fantastic scent and performance! This is very gentlemanly scent. I get compliments on this almost every time I use it.
Very good performance! Wish first scent mentioned in top notes was more prominent.
All of Stirling shaving soaps are top performing shave soaps. The quick lathering, skin protection, and slickness are second to none.
Great lather and great scent for any special occasion.
This is the first of 3 sample soaps I purchased. EXCELLENT! I want to try the other 2 unused samples to determine which scent I prefer and then will be ordering from you.
Quick shipping and great packaging. This stuff smells fantastic. Great lather and smooth shave.
I wanted to like this, and while shaving did…but didn’t even make it 24 hours after before trashing when I got home from work the following day.
I do think there is a reason this is a popular shave soap, but it is 100% not for me. Hence 2 stars.
The Great: Lather was the quality Stirling standard.
The Good: Smell as described and initially was nice tobacco and musk forward.
The Bad: The vanilla and amber was a saccharine combination. When combined with the tobacco and musk it was subtraction through addition: a floral note of faux patchouli. Not great.
The horrible: That pungency—an awful lingering nausea inducing scent lingers—reminiscent of my grandmothers house in the late 80s: old smoke and tar embedded in a tattered orange shag carpet, an ornate glass jar full of stale candy that you wouldn't eat even if you were allowed, cheap dial soap, stuck sitting on a plastic covered couch in hot stale unmoving hot air. I came in the house after work and could immediately smell it from two rooms away. I walked to the bathroom and threw out the soap from the drawer in the bathroom trash alongside the scraped out bit from my bowl. Two hours later when the wife was giving one of the kids a bath, she asked if that awful smell was my soap. I had to empty the trash outside. I had to rinse my bowl with olive oil then a mild dish soap to remove the smell.
Not a fan.
This is only my third stirling scent, but I enjoyed it. It’s a very vibrant clean soapy scent. I would definitely recommend it, especially as a sample puck. Scents are very specific and hard to determine based on reviews, so don’t discount this one, it’s in the middle.
If you want to feel like you just took a bath with your grandmother -- then this is the scent for you! You too can smell like a floral aroma that one may wear to bingo or a funeral home. Sorry folks - this was a swing and a BIG miss. Had to repeat another customer's review about old lady's purse so I can't take credit for the suggestion of renaming it to that... --- they were spot on with their review! I tried -- sorry -- can't get that old lady out of my head or off of my face! :) Sterling Soap -- I LOVE YOUR OTHER SCENTS AND YOUR SOAP OUTPERFORMS EVERY OTHER SHAVE SOAP!!!! KEEP IT UP! This one just wasn't for me and didn't seem masculine at all.
The first time I used Stirling Gentleman I was not impressed. There were several other scents that I preferred. However, after using it a few times the scent grew on me and now it is one of my favorites. One thing I look for is how long a scent lasts. This one lasts the entire day. I shave in the morning and still smell it when I turn in for the night. I love that. Add Stirling Gentleman to Barbershop and Haverford as my favorite scents in the lineup.
I'm glad others like this as I must be the one oddball. When I opened my last batch of samplers from Stirling, I smelled this overwhelming flowery smell. I used to remember my dad talking about someone "smelling like a French whorehouse"... I think this is what he was talking about.
I was really hoping to smell the nice "A warm and masculine blend of Tobacco, Vanilla, Amber, and Musk" that the note on this says, but this is going right in the trash. The scent was burning my eyes it was so strong. Thankfully it was only a sample, so I didn't waste a ton of money.
I can't wait for the fall when Autumn Glory comes back... that is more what I was hoping this would have been like.
I just finished shaving with Stirling Gentleman soap and am wearing the matching cologne. It's so good that I felt compelled to write a review. If you're looking for a tobacco scent with heavy elements of vanilla, this is not the scent for you. Go with the equally wonderful Haverford instead. But if you want a sophisticated take on actual loose tobacco leaf, there is simply none better. Stirling Gentleman is what all the other scents with "Havana" and "Cigars" in their name pretend to be. As long as Stirling continues to make it, I'll never be without it.
If you are looking for a tobacco/vanilla scent go with Haverford. This is a decent scent but Haverford is a masterpiece. It isn't Stirling Gentleman's fault. It is a good scent but just like Sergio Perez or Lando Norris or Carlos Sainz are good drivers, they just have a hard time shining when Max Verstappen is on the track.
My love for Stirling Soap Co. is unquestioned. I admire the company's ethic, how they dash off little personal notes on invoices, send little extras with some orders and their soaps lather beautifully and offer fantastic cushion for shaving and they're a bargain too.
But I confess I was disappointed with Stirling Gentleman. To me, a more accurate name would be "Little Old Lady's Purse".
I've used it twice but don't think I can subject myself to it again. But, hey, some people love it and that's just fine. This one just didn't work for me.
Love the soap but unfortunately my wife says it’s an old lady scent. I also wouldn’t recommend this scent, although I didn’t feel old lady was the proper description I do agree that it’s not my favorite.
It might sound strange, but memories of swimming in a rec center pool come to mind whenever I'd use this. Very pleasant. I would definitely buy again.
Not much of a review. I am still somewhat new to the idea of rating soaps. It does it's job.
I love sampling different shaving soaps. When I first decided to give up on my hair line and shave bald, I got a Sandalwood scented shaving soap from another company. It's definitely a scent I associate with old people, but living old people, and not something I really want to smell like. Stirling Gentlemen goes way beyond that. It's what I imagine a man in his prime smelling like in the 1920's or 30's. The vanilla and tobacco come through sweet and strong and combo very well together.
Ultimately it's not the scent profile I want for myself but only because Stirling has some other amazing scents that I like just a little better. But throughout my shave with it the more I smelled it the more I enjoyed it. Intoxicating! I will definitely be using my sample puck to completion on this scent. The ones I like better are Stirling Green and Mountain Man but I've only sampled a small handful of what they have to offer.
I got the soap and the matching EDT. Here's what this smells like to me:
Picture a gentleman's study from 70+ years ago in an English Manor House. The walls are paneled with polished wood. There's an oak desk, highly polished, and leather couches. Behind the desk is a bookshelf with lots of old books. The man who spends his time here smokes sweet-smelling cigars and drinks brandy. The combination of the wood polish, leather, tobacco, old book smell, and brandy mix together. That's Stirling Gentleman. Beautiful, musky, sweet. The soap lathers great; the EDT smells just like it, and is great for colder weather. It might be a bit too heavy for summer, but perfect for fall and winter.
I like stronger scents that stay with you. I also like warm scents. I've tried about two thirds of Stirling's soap line and this one is my favorite one of the bunch. This is my go to scent. I wish I could give more stars
I'm conflicted on how to rank this one. They definitely nailed the scent and smells "old school classic" like my great-grandfather, so it's nostalgic, but it stays with you alllll day (especially if you pair it with Old Spice or Stirling Gentleman aftershaves)... and while it's nice in the bathroom, I wish it wasn't so strong so I wasn't "stuck" with the scent on me the whole rest of the day.
In my opinion, Stirling Soaps shave soaps are a major win! Every one I have used is buttery smooth, easy to lather and a great value. The Stirling Gentleman fragrance is IT though! I use this scent most of the time and only occasionally switch to one of their other scents for a day. I am a customer for life. Thanks Stirling!
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again man ol man you guys awesome . You’ve got a customer for life 👍. Thanks for the great products and the great customer service. RC
I recently ordered some samples from Stirling Soap & one of them was Stirling Gentlemen & this stuff smells great & lathers up really well. I have shaved with Executive Man, Akadia & now Stirling Gentlemen. I've really enjoyed shaving with them all but this is what a real man & gentleman should smell like. I know in some reviews people have stated that it just didn't smell right but this one that I have smells great! I have Taylor of old bond street in the royal forrest scent & it is great stuff but I always find myself reaching for Stirling soaps, trust me they are that good! They have a lot of scents to choose from so give them a try, you won't regret it! Great job Stirling Soap company!
Lathers beautifully, smells great, masculinity at its best. What else can I say? Rod and Mandy hit another home run. I've got a tub of Glacial Lemon Chill on the way, will be reviewing it soon. :)
I too agree with Steve B. The scent is not good. I do not smell the fragrances listed in the description. However, the shaving experience is the best that I have gotten. It is as good a product you can get. I bought a few other scents and they are wonderful. I will use up my Stirling Gentlemen, but will not order this particular one in the future.
First of all, I think Stirling gives the best bang for your buck in the current shave soap market. I have over 10 different Stirling shave soaps and enjoy them all. But this one is overtly strong with a very unpleasant scent. I don’t detect any of the described scents listed in the scent profile but the overall effect for me is just bad and the after shave scent lingered for a long time. The lather, slickness and cushion is standard Stirling quality but I won’t be able to use this soap. Hopefully I just got a bad batch or maybe I just don’t pair with this particular scent, but this one will need to be passed on.
I recently ordered some shave soap samples to try & this was included with my order as a bonus. I really like the scent, not overwhelming but lingers post shave. My wife really likes the smell. As with their other soaps it lathers great. With my next order, I might order the shave balm too.
