3/5 — A Great Everyday Scent, With Room for Improvement
There's something refreshing about opening a package and immediately feeling like somebody cared about putting it together. Stirling made a wonderful first impression. Packing peanuts, business information, a complimentary Deep Blue Sea bath soap, and even a handwritten thank-you note! That last touch especially stood out. It's nice to feel appreciated as a customer.
The Mountain Man body butter itself has a lot going for it. Grapeseed oil, jojoba oil, meadowfoam seed oil, mango butter, babassu oil, coconut oil, and glycerin make for an impressive moisturizing blend. I also appreciate the batch number. That's the kind of attention to detail I like seeing from a company making skincare products.
As for the fragrance, I'm pleasantly surprised! Mountain Man has a clean, inviting scent that feels perfectly suited for everyday wear. It's not the sort of fragrance that announces your arrival from across the room, nor does it need to be. I can imagine someone catching a pleasant whiff while passing nearby without feeling overwhelmed.
The consistency reminds me of a rich, creamy lotion. It spreads beautifully, absorbs comfortably, and doesn't leave me feeling greasy. That's a definite win.
My one disappointment with the product itself was the presentation after opening. There was a rather large indentation in the butter, almost as though somebody had taken a scoop out of it. Some product had adhered to the protective disc, so perhaps that explains it. I can't say anything was missing, but visually, it wasn't the best first impression.
I also have one suggestion for Stirling. Your return policy encourages customers to order samples when they're unsure about a scent, which makes perfect sense. Unfortunately, body butter samples aren't offered. I understand from your FAQ that producing and packaging them presents challenges, but I'd love to see a body butter discovery kit someday. A fragrance can smell wonderful as an eau de toilette or aftershave and behave differently in a moisturizer.
All things considered, there's a lot to appreciate here. The personalized packaging, thoughtful ingredient blend, pleasant fragrance, and comfortable skin feel make Mountain Man a very respectable everyday body butter.
A few refinements to the presentation and perhaps more sampling options would make an already enjoyable experience even better. Stirling has certainly given me reasons to explore more of its products!
