I use this when my shave happens to land on a Sunday. The scent is awesome and it provides an excellent feel for my skin post shave.
Look to the site for a description of the scent. It's churchy, pleasant and gone after the shave. The lather is great and very slick, like the lather of all Stirling soaps that I have tried.
The title says it all and perfect timing for Christmas. I have this scent in a waterless diffuser in my office also. I love the scent as does my wife and son.
Love the scent on this one! It does smell exactly like eggnog and it lathers perfectly. I happen to have a cinnamon sensitivity, and the cinnamon in this one (must be very low level, as it is not evident in the scent) does flush my face and make my face hot. I regret that I cannot use this soap, because MAN it is a great scent!! My two star is not a rating of this soap in general, just only for me.
I love this shave soap. And the best thing is, it has a very pleasant holiday feel to it, without the addition of cinnamon. It has more of a greenery scent, and it is amazing!
The scent on this frankincense shave soap is amazing. It is completely calming and starts your day magically. I do not see this as a holiday scent to be honest. This is a shave soap that can be used year round, as it does not have any holiday spices or whatnot that would limit it to a Christmas shave. This is absolutely the best scent that Stirling has created!!
One of a kind scent, love it. Heady but otherwise hard to describe; expensive, earthy, exotic. Has a Middle East, Turkish bazaar quality. Singularly unique and perfectly fitting for the King of Kings!
Fast shipping!.. this is a fantastic crisp scent. A little goes a long way. Long lasting. I can’t lie still get a whiff of it 3-4 hours later
Stirling is my go to for ALL of my shave soaps. This one is great and perfect for the season. The problem with their soaps is they make so many great choices, it takes an extra several minutes just chosing which one to use for the day.
First this soap is as slick as you can get, a great value for your money. The scent reminds me of going into an old time Christmas shop with the incense burning. No extra scents in this one to muddy it up, love it. Hope it stays in the line up.
A wonderful product and experience.
Love this scent! It is very unique. Regal one might say.
As a man of faith,I've often wondered what the gifts smelled like that were brought to Jesus and this just gives a wonderful experience.
I get this one out every Christmas along with Christmas Eve Soap and use until the New Year. It's certainly Bethlehemy and Son of Davidy. .. as well as newborn Kingy. Very Jerusalemy. A must have for my December lineup.
Wow, way to go Stirling. This soap smells identical to raw frankincense and myrrh. This stuff is a time machine, taking me back a couple few thousand years! It creates a quick thick lather in no time. I also ordered the aftershave splash and it smells just as raw as the soap. This was my first purchase from Stirling, and I'm hooked already. The free sample bar soap was epic and thoroughly appreciated. Also, stellar packaging and fast shipping. Thanks again guys and gals at Stirling. Merry Christmas!
“And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh."
I haven't tried many Stirling products. The performance of the ones I have tried is stellar. Fragrances have been hit and miss for me but that is to be expected. I don't get the poor reviews on this. Frankincense dominates and that's perfectly fine with me. Myrrh tends to be a fairly weak scent which is good because sometimes it can be a sickly sweet smell. Every now and then I will get a quick waft of it but it passes fast. It would probably not even be detectable if the vanilla was ditched. The overall fragrance starts off kind of med-strong and gradually weakens. Someone would have to invade your personal space after a few hours to detect it. It does hang around most of the day for your personal enjoyment. Don't let the other reviews discourage you from trying.
If you spent your childhood attending a Greek/Russian Orthodox Church, this is what your Sundays smelled like! As such, I find it very comforting. Oh, and I still go to church... It is a Christmas scent in the most authentic sense of the word...
I bought this soap in Nov 2019 and have only used it a few times because it is my least favorite scent of the 11 Stirling soaps that I have experienced. If you like an earthy scent, then this soap is for you. I gave it 3 stars because of the scent.
This one's not for me. While the scents separate may be kinda okay, together they don't jive for me and the overall strength is too much.
This shaving soap is just wonderful! At first I didn’t like the smell, from the canister. After whipping it up and applying to my face the sense changed to what I was expecting. The essential oils of Frankincense and Myrrh are known to have great benefits to the skin. I love the scent and hope it will stay in stock. It’s a very masculine scent.
I was very excited to try this out. I bought both the shave soap and the aftershave splash. This review is for the aftershave splash.
This does not even remotely smell like Frankincense or Myrrh. To me it smells like Pinesol or Lysol floor cleaner and the scent is very strong. I gave it three tries and then tossed it. Maybe its just my nose but I am very familiar with the smell of both Frankincense and Myrrh and this isn't even close. Maybe the essential oils smell distinctly different from the actual incense. I don't know. The shave soap is only slightly better but still not the smell one would expect. I'll probably end up tossing it too.
This is the only product I have not loved from Stirling.
Earthy, spicy, and I even get a bit of citrus. Where the Christmas Eve scent is bright and fun, this is more moody and somber. Both are a must have, and fit so perfectly through the holidays and all through cooler weather.
Definitely have never smelled anything like this before. It smells like incense and has a sort of Buddhist temple-ish scent to me lol. Definitely interesting, not what I was expecting. I wouldn't really use this and I'm glad I picked up a sample. The Christmas Eve scent is 100% Christmas matching and perfect, while this scent is more of a unique incense and I have never smelled frankincense and myrrh before, but I'm assuming this is pretty accurate.
I love Stirling soaps, but this is not my favorite scent. It smells like Christmas only in the sense that it reminds me of camels in a manger. My wife says it smells like the zoo. If you're looking for a holiday scent, Stirling Christmas Eve is a much better choice. Hot Apple Cider is great as well.
Like all Stirling soaps, the performance is excellent. Just remember that the 3 wise men probably smelled terrible by modern standards.
Last year, Coniferous was changed and smelled quite bad. More like soap and less like pine. Much to my disappointment, Frankincense and Myrrh has also changed and is barley recognizable from previous years.
I still have a Coniferous from two years ago, that I rarely use, because it smells so amazing. And I have bottle of Coniferous from last year as well, which smells completely different. You wouldn't even know they are them same scent. So comparing this year's Frankincense and Myrrh to last year's I am able to confidently say that it is nowhere near as good this year.
Coniferous from two years ago is a perfect 10. Last year's rendition, a two out of ten. Frankincense and Myrrh from two years ago and last year, also a perfect ten. This year's, a two out of ten.
Just to cover my bases, let me say a few words about handmade products. Yes, there will be some differences from batch to batch and I actually don't mind that. The rest of the year I exclusively use Bay Rum. It does vary from batch to batch, but always smells about the same. The problem with the variations in Coniferous and Frankincense and Myrrh is that it is not a slight difference, it's major. Stirling has either switched the formulation or changed the source of the scent ingredients. Either way, they smell nothing like the original formula and don't smell very good now.
Come on Stirling. I love you guys and I love your products, but these inconsistencies have to be addressed.
Thanks for the review. We actually are still using the exact same oils from 2018 in our 2019 batches. I bought a large enough supply of Frankincense, Myrrh, Cardamom, and Copaiba Balsam essential oils last fall that we've not had to buy more. I'm sorry it didn't meet your expectations.
What an incredible shaving soap! My only exposure to Frankincense and Myrrh is picking up a bar or two at a crafts show from a soap vendor or a T.J. Maxx. I own many tubs and samples from Stirling, and F & M, just like the all the others performs superbly for me. Frankincense and Myrrh may be a Christmas scent "fit for a King," but it is certainly worthy of regular use in your (my) shaving rotation even if you (I) aren't a king. It is truly unique. I own nothing like it. Perhaps you are looking for a scent other than a fougere, a fruit, a tobacco, or vetiver soap? If so, this may be just for you. Give it a shot? Buy Stirling, support Rod and Mandy, and stop looking for the "perfect soap." You just found it.
To me it smells like fresh ginger root. I love this scent, I think it would be over the top of paired with mango undertones or something similar. Thanks for offering another EO only soap for me!
This has got to be my favorite Stirling scent thus far. Spicy, woodsy and slightly pungent. I can't believe that there haven't been other reviews! You guys have got to try it!
