So first of all, this is a powerful sent bomb. I ordered a bunch of stuff and I could smell this through the packaging before I even opened it. None of the other soaps stood a chance. 😂 I've left it in the garage for a couple hours to air out and it's helped calm this beast down. My girlfriend is absolutely insane over how good it smells to her. She loves star anise and just was being a goblin smelling it. 😂 Personally I think the odors overpowering, and I was hoping more for a licorice root sent. But it does not disappoint. It is absolutely black ice.

As for performance. Works great. I went from parasso Green which has a really nice menthol effect, to this... Holy cow this is five times colder. I'm not kidding. It was like just having pure ice cubes on my face.. I really like cold shaving, I think this eliminates my need for ice water. 😂

But yeah really glad I got this. Probably going to use it sparingly until the scent dissipates a good bit more. So far is beating the musty smell of my garage with a 2x4 and screaming "come get some, bro."

As for the container in the picture, I just repurposed my paraso green soap container when I ran out. I gently peel the labels off the refill puck and used a exacto knife to cut them to size. And I put some clear packing tape over them to help waterproof. At a glance it looks professional. 🤷

Absolutely love the scent, I use the soap followed by the aftershave, can't say enough about the scent. Soap lathers easily and covers well, nick prevention is very good.

This is a very good product. It lathers very well. Has a very nice aroma. With this shave soap and a straight razor you can shave your face smooth as a mirror.

I had tried a few other Stirling scents. They smelled nice, but just wasn’t feeling the love. So I came across this one. What the heck…I’ll get it. I fell in love with the licorice scent. The cool tingle really goes well with the scent. This one is a winner. I was going to get the aftershave, but wife doesn’t want me to smell like a Twizzler all day.

Like all other Stirling shave soaps, Black Ice produces a rich, slick lather for a close, comfortable shave and soft, smooth post-shave skin. In fact, the soap produces such a thick cushion of lather that I would recommend Black Ice to new DE (or ever straight) razor shavers. Menthol is moderate. The fragrance is straight-up black licorice. (I was a bit skeptical, but it really works.) This is a thirsty soap, and you may need to add a bit more water than usual to maintain slickness.

When I first tried this soap around four years ago or so I had received it as a sample from a gentleman who didn't care for the scent, so he offered it to me and needless to say I jumped on it. Am I ever glad I did because it's top-notch. So easy to lather, I love the black licorice scent so much, and the menthol effect is wonderful - not to the point where it'll freeze your face off, (that's a job for the Glacials!) but still colder than cold enough to kick the Proraso Green soap and cream as well as many other menthol soaps and creams in the butt. Another brilliant treasure!

If you like COLD then lather this up and brush it on. Four or five drops of water on the soap and a wet brush brings up a nice lather. As you brush it onto your face let it sit a bit -- not long -- and you'll feel the COLD -- not cool but COLD. It smells like black licorice. I also follow it up with the Black Ice aftershave. Ice cold indeed. Why not 5-stars? I am not a fan of black licorice.

This is the first real mentholated soap I've had the chance to use, and boy was it a treat. But more on that in a minute.

First off - if you're not a lover of anise (licorice), this might not be the soap for you. It's very pronounced. It was the only thing I could smell when opening the box when it arrived. If you're a fan of that delicious aroma, then this will be right up your alley.

As for the menthol, it's definitely icey. I will admit that the first time I lathered it up, I was so focused on finding that menthol chill that I felt a bit underwhelmed. But after actually lathering up and shaving, it was noticeable. Post-shave was amazingly cool and refreshing.

Overall, this is an awesome soap, which shouldn't be a surprise. Slick, rich, made for an awesome shave. Definitely a fan of this one!

Wasn’t expecting this smell, I don’t like it at all

I read the reviews for this soap before I bought it. The smell of black licorice and menthol is fantastic. I have used it twice since I recieved it and it a great soap.

Black Ice is the same great lather- thick, rich, super slick, great cushion- as other Stirling soaps. If you love black licorice and menthol as I do, you’ll love this soap.

I would to say this is the favorite scent as I love the scent of black licorice so it reminds me of Crows Gumdrops.

Definitely the most strongest smelling soap I've used so far. Even leaving it out when it first arrived left a lingering smell of black licorice. However, if you enjoy that type of smell than you can't go wrong buying this!

Price is excellent and the quantity is above average so you get a good deal.

The lather formed very quickly for me and had staying power. It is very slick but comes off cleanly afterwards. I go with a three pass ritual and the lather doesn't break down through all three passes. I would say the menthol is on the heavier side as well as the scent. Neither is over bearing but have definite presence. Speaking of scent, it is close enough to want to take a bite out of it! Afterwards though, it washes away with very little to no lingering.

This was my first Stirling soap, and I will continue to add to my collection.

Really really wished the scent was stronger, but otherwise the feel and the menthol overall is amazing. Glad I tried a sample of this as it will probably be in the next order.

I am a big fan of Executive Man but wanted to try a few different options. Lathered up with Black Ice and wanted to take a bite out of it! My Mom could have washed my mouth out with this anytime.;)

Loved the scent as soon as I opened it. I leave it open in my room because the scent is so good. I ordered a bunch of samples this time, but this one made it on to my "to buy a full puck" list as soon as I opened it and had my first shave with it. Performance is excellent - nice and slick.
Will definitely have a permanent place in my rotation.

This is my top soap for warmer weather! I love the scent, the performance is typical amazing Sterling. The menthol is strong but not too strong, I couldn't imagine trying any of the glacial soaps though... I will always have this soap in my cabinet. I took a month trip to California and only brought this soap and didn't miss any of my others.
