Scent Description: Made with Benzoin, Frankincense, Clove, and Nutmeg essential oils. This splash smells like an older gentleman’s pantaloons at the end of a hot July day in Philadelphia, drafting important documents with no air conditioner. It’s actually a very unique scent that reminded a few of our testers of a root beer float. An instant favorite.

NOTE: The description is tongue-in-cheek.  It smells like a wonderful blend of Frankincense, Benzoin, Nutmeg, and Clove.  It doesn't actually smell like sweaty old man pants. As of 3 March 2015, we have been averaging about 2-3 inquiries per week as to why we would make a soap that smells like an older gentleman's trousers......

Ingredients: Witch Hazel, Aloe, Distilled Water, Polysorbate 20, Essential Oil

Bottle Size:

Full-Size: 200ml

Sample: 1oz

Customers praise this witch hazel and aloe splash for its moisturizing, alcohol-free formula that soothes skin without burning. The scent is polarizing: many love the unique blend of cloves, frankincense, and citrus, describing it as "addictive" and like a "root beer float," while some find it overpowering initially or unpleasant. Most agree it leaves skin feeling great and tight.

The scent I miss the most

Hopefully it'll come back as a limited release scent, but it's been my all time favorite witch hazel & aloe. The shave and bath soap were great, but the splash hits different. Layers great with the face balms.

Great Scent!!!

I have been using the Stirling Witch Hazels for years. The scents are amazing. Much better than the Thayer’s. Just wish they would bring back the Benjamin Franklin.

EXCELLENT

I love using witch hazel as an aftershave instead of a splash. My skin loves it, hates the alcohol. Ben Franklin is an excellent scent.

Nice!

I like this scent in the soap and aftershave splash. So I picked it up for days I don't shave. My son is using witch hazel for his skin and he likes this one as well.

First time I ever had to wipe a Stirling product off of me :(

This is for the scent only, as a witch hazel I have zero complaints. But the scent, oof!

To me it smells like an old abandoned log cabin, dusky and damp. Almost pleasant. Almost. Each passing second it became less appealing, until I finally had to rinse it off.

Indifferent

This scent is neither good nor bad. It reminds of the smell of a gardening store. I don't dislike it, but I wouldn't wear it on a date either.

My current scent rankings are as follows:
1. (best) Menthol Margaritas in the Arctic
1. (tie) Menthol Orange Chill (love it)
3. Glacial Wintergreen
4. Ben Franklin (gardening store smell)
5. Vetiver

Most unusual scent, but it really grows on you.

I admit I made an error when ordering and bought two of these, but I will go through them!
What I love about the scent is that it has a bit of everything. I get the cloves, frankincense (never smelled that before).

Scent aside, the witch hazel in general is so gentle, not like the sharp stuff with the yellow label grandma used to daub on your mosquito bites. No sir. Clean, not too astringent and no alcohol-y drying. A clean finish!

Nice Winter smell

I enjoy the aroma of this product, but it's pretty dominated by cloves to my nose (and those of others who've smelled it on me). Not bad, but I don't know where people are getting Rootbeer Float.

A really pleasant surprise

I first ordered a sample of the Ben Franklin shave soap purely out of curiosity, given the rather bizarre product description. Much to my surprise, I loved it and then bought the witch hazel and aloe. I won't try to describe it other than to say that it is very unique, a bit citrusy and as others have said, truly addictive. The moisturizing properties of the witch hazel and aloe are really nice but I am going to order the aftershave version next time... I just want more of this crazy scent!

Love this product.

Of all the products I've purchased from Stirling to date, this witch hazel and their shaving brush rank at the top. I love the smell of this product first and foremost. I rub this all over my face and neck after I shave. The smell lasts for hours unless I begin to sweat from working. It tightens your skin in a very enjoyable way. Can't go wrong with this product.

Feels great! Smells great!

Be generous with this when you're throwing it on your face. I got one of the 250ml bottles, not sure where they went, but I can't go a day where I shave and don't put this on. It smells great and it's pretty much my closeout to the shave ritual, with only my aftershave following it. I love how it smells, as it reminds me of being a kid at school. So the nostalgia factor definitely adds to it for me.

Even though there are only 100ml bottles now, I'll still be picking these up once I run out.

Very nice

the clove and frankincense is really nice, not over powering by any means and although the combination of smells is kind of ancient and classic it does not remind me of any ones bloomers or hot sweaty days. it does smell like something i would wear with a brooks brothers suit but perhaps not an armoni. it is very rolls royce and not so much lamberguini. All that not really being said, i can tell you for sure that it leaves my face feeling great with very little if any burn. it is soothing and calming after a shave and not punishing, i like that.

Starts out Weird

it goes on with cloves all over and it is a bit over powering for me but in time it leaves a very pleasant smell that comes up and catches me off guard during the day. It is rather excellent after it melts into its stride for the day. I like it. but mostly i like the way my face feels after i use it, it is exceptionally smooth, tight and makes you want to feel your face often.

Exotic, bewitching, and great on my face.

I'll start off saying how much I love Stirling's aloe and witch hazel as it has become part of every shave, every day. It firms and soothes with just the tiniest sting to let you know it's working. I love the stuff and don't want to imagine my post-shave without it. That being said, this scent, though a heady concoction of spice, citrus rind and (in the best possible way) gasoline is a wonderful addition to my growing collection of splashes. I don't personally get "rootbeer float" but what I do smell reminds me of a fortunetellers den tucked into a back alley on a hot day just after a rain storm. It's a fantastic scent but for me, not one I can do every day. I love it on the weekend, but for my daily shave prefer something a bit lighter/cleaner smelling.

Great smell

Great smelling stuff. Reminds me of a root beer float with a lot of exotic spices/cloves. Love the scent.

Excellent Daily Splash!

Okay... Get over the zany description. It ain't no old mans pantaloons! I'm talking ROOTBEER CREAM SHAKE! Its great stuff! The nutmeg spices it up then the Benzoin takes the deep sweet vanilla, then its all closed off via a warm woodsy Frankincense. All day staying power! As the Stirling splash formulas work... this one is awesome! It just keeps the skin ULTRA moisturized all day long! Killer skin softening that I don't even get with the Stirling alcohol based aftershaves! Spicy-Sweet-Warm a great scent! By the way... No STING! No alcohol = no burn. Some days... no burn is good.

Phantastic Witch Hazel for My Phavorite Philadelphian

I can see why this reminds people of a root beer float. The scent has a certain "creaminess" to it, but is also a bit "smoky," like A1. It's a masculine, old-fashioned scent. It does not linger too long and pairs well with any balm. Also, it does not burn my freshly-shaved skin when applied. Thanks, Stirling: you know how to hook a proud Philadelphian. I feel the "Brotherly Love."

Smells bad until it's rubbed in.

I was really hoping to only smell the "root beer float" scent that the testers smelled but straight from the bottle it smells like something my grandpa would have used. I was completely turned off by it but I figured I would try it out since I bought it. It goes on easy and soothes the skin. After the initial strong scent it does leave a pretty good smelling scent that lasts pretty much all day.
